The International Court of Justice (ICJ) Internship offers a limited number of internship opportunities throughout the year for talented students and young professionals.
Important Note: The application period for the 2026-2026 Judicial Fellowship Programme, which is the primary internship program offered by the ICJ Internship, closed on February 5, 2026.
Job Roles (While specific roles aren’t available, here are potential areas)
- Assist with research and analysis of legal issues related to ongoing cases before the Court.
- Help prepare legal documents and draft summaries of pleadings and arguments.
- Contribute to the organization and management of Court documents and archives.
- Assist with research into public international law and relevant international jurisprudence.
- Provide support for the Court’s library and information services.
Education Requirements
- Enrolled in a relevant undergraduate or graduate program in law, international relations, political science, or a related field (highly preferred).
Experience Requirements
- Prior experience in a legal or international affairs setting is a plus, but not mandatory.
Skills Requirements
- Strong research and analytical skills.
- Excellent writing and editing skills in English and/or French (the Court’s official languages).
- A keen interest in international law and the work of the Court.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and legal research databases is a plus.
